Harvesting the Tree

We begin our tour of the 2004 Salmon Bake with a visit to the forests of Manchester. Here, on Saturday June 19th, a small but dermined band of volunteer wood cutters gathered to harvest a fresh alder tree. This tree later became the sole heat source for the Salmon Bake's cooking fires, and its smoke lent a delicate and important flavor to the fish.

The head of the wood cutting crew is Rocky Heald, pictured at left. To his right is a volunteer named Kurt, and in the background is Tony (a.k.a. The Bean Man.) Anne also helped, but is holding the camera. The donor and feller of this year's tree was Eric Cisney. Thank you, wood cutting crew!
