Dining
The Salmon Bake officially began serving food to a waiting crowd at noon, and continued with only a few lulls until five o'clock. The menu for the event followed tradition: fresh King salmon cooked over a smokey alder fire, baked beans, salad, garlic bread and a soda. Ice water was also available for a small fee, as a fundraiser for the library. Visitors waiting in line for their meals chatted with members of the Friends association, and looked longingly at a beautiful wooden trunk being offered as a raffle item. In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the trunk holds special significance for many community members, because it was made in part from the wood of the original Manchester Library: a renovated chicken coop. Having been through the serving line, with food and beverages in hand, most people made their way to the long, shaded tables that served as an outdoor dining area. For many, dining at the Salmon Bake is a rare opportunity to get to know new neighbors from all over the community and reminisce with folks they've known for years. Even if you haven't seen someone in months, you can often count on them to appear at this traditional gathering. Live music by the Whistling Oysters provided a very pleasant background for this year's dining experience. Dining Photo Album
