ManchesterCommunity Association Newsletter

July 2003

We will be sending you an 'issue' about once a month with news of the community and the MCA (that's Manchester Community Association NOT the Manchester Christian Academy).

THE 4th OF JULY

The Manchester area was, as usual, the best place in the county to see fireworks this year.....and we're not talking about the fireworks in Seattle!

Many thanks to all the people who lit up the sky with hundreds of dollars worth of fireworks. Those people include the three or so groups down on the beach, the Clarks on Colchester Drive and the families on the hill behind Manchester.

SPEAKING OF FIREWORKS

Some of you have been wondering what happened to the big Manchester Community Association fireworks shows. Remember those great shoots we used to have down on the beach and then on the barge? Well....

Unfortunately the MCA went into debt with the last two shows, one being the 2000 millennium shoot on December 31st. The donations dried up, our sponsor dropped us and we, the MCA, haven't been able to raise the funds to pay off our $4500 fireworks debt. However, we are working on paying of what we owe for past shoots and as soon as we have that done we'll begin fund raising to have a new fireworks shoot!

If you miss the shows you can help. We'll have a fireworks booth at the August 16th Manchester Festival where you can donate or you can mail a donation to the address at the bottom of this newsletter. Just mark your checks "fireworks" in the memo portion in the lower left.

Only community support is going to bring the fireworks show back. We hope we can count on you!

MANCHESTER FESTIVAL

The Manchester Festival, hosted by your Manchester Community Association and the Manchester Library, will be on Saturday, August 16th. It will be in the library parking lot and will run from 10 AM to 3 PM.

We stated last newsletter that it will coincide with the Friend's of the Library book and plant sale. That was incorrect information. There will be no plant sale but the library will be open and their books for sale will be available for you to look at.

The focus of this MCA event will be a swap meet meets a farmers market meets a craft sale meets a children's carnival. In addition to people selling their wares we'll have balloons and kids games with prizes, a silent auction for a boat, food, drinks and kids' activities. The MCA will be offering up packaged snacks and BBQ for hungry shoppers.

Our new Manchester Librarian, Dee D'Haem, will be reviving the children's parade! Decorate your bike, tricycle, unicycle, wagon, scooter, skateboard, wear a costume, put a bow on your dog and come on down to participate. Time for the parade will be about noon.

In addition to the parade the library will also be hosting a story time and crafts table for the kids, Barnaby Bear will make an appearance and there is talk of a kite making event. Details of the children's programs will be announced as they are available.

Got stuff to sell?
Want to get rid of stuff?
WE NEED YOU!!

The MCA welcomes anyone wanting to come down and sell their craft items, garage sale items or produce as well as fund raising organizations. Spaces available will be limited so it's first come is first served.

Spaces will be roughly 9 x 17 and will rent for $10 for a space, $15 for electricity. There are a few spaces available that will have electricity available. Only limitations are no prepared food items (IE: popcorn, hot dogs or ice cream. Food sold to be consumed at home is fine), no firearms or other weapons, no live animals and no adult or drug related items.

Those interested in renting a space can contact MCA President Brian Moore at brian.moore@charter.net or mail your payment to the address listed at the bottom of this newsletter. There is also a vendor application and current information at our web site which you can access by clicking here.

DESERT IN THE GARDEN

The Manchester Library will be hosting Desert In The Garden on Saturday the 16th of August. It will also be held in the library parking lot right after the MCA Festival.

MANCHESTER WATER DISTRICT

Did you know that the Manchester Water District serves nearly 9,000 people in the unincorporated areas of Manchester, South Colby, Harper, and Southworth and operates a system of over 32 miles of piping, 11 wells, 5 reservoirs, 3 pump stations, and 360 public and private hydrants for fire protection?

If you'd like to read more about your water district and see the minutes from the last meeting just check out the Manchester Water District web page, hosted in this very web site, by clicking here!

BLOCK WATCH PROGRAM

You're invited to attend the Second Annual Manchester-Wide Blockwatch Meeting at 7:00 PM on Thursday July 24th at the Manchester Library. For more information, please visit the Blockwatch section of our web page by clicking here.

The Block Watch program in Manchester is going well -- well enough that we've got a Block Watch sign posted at the end of Colchester. Daniels Loop and Sitka Court still need block captains. If you're interested please contact Bud Larson at budlwanlars@msn.com or 769.8793.
