Manchester Community Association Newsletter
MAY 2003
We will be sending you an 'issue' about once a month with news of the
community and the MCA (that's Manchester Community Association NOT the
Manchester Christian Academy).
THANKS!
Thank you Cliff & Doris Blind for your continuing membership in the
MCA.
Special thanks to Jill Turk who has designed and submitted several
Manchester Community Association logo designs. We'll unveil our top pick
soon.
CHRISTMAS TREE NEWS
The MCA, Friends of the Library and the Long Lake Garden Club are
still working on a plan to incorporate a permanent pipe to plunk a
Christmas tree trunk into at the new landscaping and planting at the
Manchester Library. If we can sink a pipe into the ground and get
electricity out to that area having a community Christmas tree every year
will be a lot easier. If you have ideas or expertise please contact one of
the groups above.
MORE THANKS
Speaking of the Christmas tree... we'd just like you to know that the
driving force behind our community tree, Phil Paquette, donated more than
$500 of the $800+ that it took to get the tree in place and lit. Thanks
Phil! You're an asset to the community.
MANCHESTER FESTIVAL
Okay, here's what's in the works on the Manchester Festival & Swap
Meet. It's planned for Sunday, August 16th in the Manchester Library
parking lot from 10AM to 5PM. We still have to get permission to use the
lot, get some other things nailed down, but just in case anyone is
interested this is what is tentatively planned --
- Theme is a swap meet meets farmers market
- Space will be the size of a parking space and will rent for $20
- Some space will be available with electricity but will be limited and
will rent for $30. First come first served on those.
- Live animals, weapons and adult items will not be allowed at the
Festival.
- Garage sale type items, craft items welcome as well as fund raising
and informational booths
- The Manchester Community Association will be providing drinks and
snacks
- If things work out well there will be some children's carnival type
games.
REMEMBER - THIS IS ALL IN THE PLANNING STAGE SO FAR. FIRM DETAILS WILL
FOLLOW.
REMEMBERING OUR VETERANS
AMVETS will be having a small ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at the
Manchester Library. There will be a rifle salute and a speaker.
Refreshments will be offered to attendees at BJ's Deli after the
ceremony.
RUMOR MILL -- FIREWORKS!!
A very reliable source says that the fireworks show that mysteriously
appears around this time every year is scheduled for the 17th of May. You
might want to bring the pets inside for the night and keep an eye cast to
the waterfront in downtown Manchester.
SENIOR SOFTBALL
Co-Ed senior softball has begun! If you're 55 or older, male or female
and would like to get into a softball game you can do so at the Lion's
Field #3 every Tuesday and Friday from 9AM to 11Am. Call 360-473-5357 for
information and registration.
LOCAL SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Father's Day Salmon Bake. This year there will, possibly, be some vendors
present.
- July 4th - Although the fireworks shoot isn't financially possible
for the MCA to put on this year, Manchester is famous and infamous for the amount
of ordnance in the air all day and all night on the 4th. Bring the dog and
