Manchester group forms crime prevention committeeIn the last several weeks, an informal coffee gathering to discuss what is new in Manchester has evolved into a crime prevention committee. Manchester central Blockwatch Captain, Bud Larsen, leads the group. The group of about six individuals has been meeting for coffee regularly on Thursday mornings at 6:45 at the Manchester Inn. If you're interested in participating, or just want to know more about the group, feel free to drop in on one of the weekly meetings! Beyond the normal Blockwatch activities, this group has expanded its efforts to encourage the Kitsap County Sheriff's office to provide a higher level of presence in the Manchester area. While Manchester isn't known to have a major crime problem, the property thefts and vandalism have been a source of irritation to many in the community. Bud has attended several of the recent Manchester Community Council meetings where he is hoping to make this crime prevention committee an integral part of the new Council's activities. The crime prevention group has been looking into the potential for a Sheriff's way-station for Manchester and overcoming funding and technical challenges to accomplish the way-station. They are also investigating non-traditional sources of support for crime prevention including Explorer Scouts, Community development grants, Redevelopment funding, and other fund grants. If you're interested in learning more about this group's activities, or even expanding blockwatch to your neighborhood, contact Bud Larsen at 769-8793. Everyone is encouraged to drop in on the Thursday morning coffee gatherings as well. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
