OCTOBER 2003
We will be sending you an 'issue' about once a month with news of the community and the MCA (that's Manchester Community Association NOT the Manchester Christian Academy).
HEY! I MISSED SEPT!
Think you missed the MCA September newsletter? No you didn't. The
creator of the newsletter was on vacation for the month. You didn't miss a
thing!
HALLOWEEN!!
Halloween is nearly here! Once again the MCA will be hosting A Manchester Halloween at the Manchester Library Community Room. We invite all school age kids and their parents to come down to the library for some well lit, spooky Halloween FUN! We'll have contests, games, craft projects and warm cider for everyone.
The main events of this second annual Manchester Halloween celebration will happen in and around the community room of the Manchester Library, as they did last year. We'll have puzzles, activities, games, prizes, and (of course) candy for those creatures who drift in out of the night looking for a treat. Whatever your trick-or-treating itinerary, we hope you'll stop by to play a quick game, show us your costume, and warm yourself over a cup of hot chocolate or cider.
Come by the library between 5:30 and 8:30 PM on Halloween night, October, 31st, and guess how many pieces of candy are in the Alien's body. Make a scary bead bracelet. Try your luck at making Cannibal Soup or tossing the rings on the spider's legs! LIBRARY'S MELLOWEEN
The Manchester Library will be hosting "Melloween" again this year. It is an "alternative" to Halloween, which might be too scary for the smaller Trick Or Treaters. The children's librarian, Kirstin, will be putting on a program that will include holiday crafts, stories, and some snacks.
Kids can come in costume if they'd like. There is nothing scary in this program and it is suitable for all people but especially small children and those who want to stay away from the scary themes.
If you'd like to join in the Melloween merriment you can do so
Thursday, October 30th in the Manchester Library from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M..
NEWS AROUND TOWN
You may be wondering where BJ's Deli went. Not far...just to the other end of the street. BJ's has moved just past the Manchester Food Center (towards the water). A gift shop will be reopening in BJ's old location.
Other notable business news is that Island Hair Salon (just above
the library) has closed. The building is available for a business or
residence.
NEW AND CONTINUING MEMBERS
We would like to thank everyone for their continued support and
membership of the MCA. Thank you Joe & Carol Kowalski, Phil Paquette and
Michael & Laurie Hildebrand.
VETERANS MEMORIAL
The veterans memorial in downtown Manchester had it's American and POW flags stolen some time around the end of August. There is a new Ensign and a smaller less expensive POW Flag not near as nice as the original. Ron Smith, who is in charge of the memorial, is working on getting some device that would allow us to lock the flags to prevent theft, what he has found so far is very expensive and not within the memorial's budget.
The brick sales, which fund the upkeep of the memorial, was cancelled due to lack of interest and sales. All money was refunded for the few sales that were made.
The memorial is currently maintained entirely by volunteer efforts, and it would be very helpful for the community to lend some financial support for its maintenance. Anything you can do to help is welcomed. Anyone who is interested in helping with the preservation and upgrade of the Memorial Site or if you have any information on the stolen flags please contact Ron Smith at 876-5030 or roncharsmi@w-link.net.
