Service Projects -- Project Linus

RAPSody Ride, August 28-29 2004:

Manchester is proud to serve as an official rest stop for the first annual Ride Around Puget Sound, a.k.a. RAPSody Ride, a bicycle race sponsored by the The Capital Bicycling Club, Tacoma Wheelmen's Bicycle Club, West Sound Cycling Club, Seattle Bicycle Club and B.I.K.E.S. of Everett.

This 150 mile ride begins and ends in Tacoma, sending cyclists as far south as Olympia and challenging them to a total elevation gain of 9,400 feet! Vashon Island, Manchester and Port Orchard are all on the race course, and Manchester has been honored as a designated rest stop. Participants completing the course in two days will spend the night of Saturday the 28th in Shelton, reaching our native shores by lunch time on Sunday; those who tackle the entire course in a single day will probably pass Manchester in a whirl on Saturday afternoon. For full details on this event, and to learn how you can participate as a rider, visit the RAPSody Ride website. Participation is limited to the first 1,500 cyclists to apply, and registration ends on August 13.

All proceeds for the RAPSody Ride go to the Bicycle Alliance of Washington (BAW), a non-profit organization dedicated to improving community infrastructure for bicycles and promoting their use as a healthy and fun means of transportation.

Volunteer for RAPSody!

Manchester will serve as an official stop on the route of this exciting event, and we'd like to show our well-traveled guests some hospitality! Volunteers will be needed to serve food and drink, help with traffic control, and participate in set-up and clean-up committees. If you are interested in volunteering or would like to be a sponsor of this event, please call Jill Priest at 871-7184 in the evening, or 476-2493 in the daytime.
